Updated Simulation Codelabs

Nov 7, 2018 — Our Simulation Codelab now comes in two versions: one that uses Docker with a ready-to-go pre-built environment and one where you set up the build toolchain yourself on a Mac or Linux machine.

OTBR is now a Thread Certified Component

Nov 5, 2018OpenThread Border Router (OTBR), our open-source implementation of a Thread Border Router, has been certified as a Thread Certified Component on a Raspberry Pi 3B using a Nordic nRF52840 NCP.

OTBR Docker support

Oct 23, 2018 — Docker support has been added to OpenThread Border Router. Run OTBR in a Docker container using either a physical or emulated NCP. See the complete setup guide for more information.

Support for TI CC1352 added

Aug 1, 2018 — The Texas Instruments CC1352 device is part of the SimpleLink™ microcontroller (MCU) platform which consists of Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth® low energy, Sub-1 GHz, Thread, ZigBee, 802.15.4 and host MCUs.

Enhanced Feature guides added

Jul 27, 2018 - We've added guides for some of the Enhanced Features provided by OpenThread. These features—such as Child Supervision and Jam Detection—are unique to OpenThread and go above and beyond the Thread Specification, while maintaining full compatibility with Thread. Border Router released

May 30, 2017 — We’ve released an open-source Border Router for use with OpenThread. A Border Router provides IP connectivity from a 802.15.4 network to networks on other physical layers (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc.).

Google I/O 2017

May 17, 2017 — Check out the IoT sandbox video to see our OpenThread wall at Google I/O 2017, with a live demonstration of a Thread network with a Border Router. This network featured 10 nodes (TI CC2538 x2, TI CC2650 x2, NXP KW41Z x2, Nordic nRF52840 x2, Dialog DA15000, and SiLabs EFR32 as a joiner) and 2 Border Routers (Raspberry Pi 3B and NXP Pico-Pi-iMX7D).
